LUCID Registration Guide – Packaging Compliance in Germany
LUCID Registration is the official process for complying with the German Packaging Act (VerpackG). It is required for any company that introduces packaged goods to the German market. The system is managed by the Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister (ZSVR) and ensures that producers take responsibility for the environmental impact of their packaging.
LUCID Registration Support via EaseCert:
Who Needs to Register with LUCID?
If you sell or ship products to customers in Germany and your goods include any form of packaging, such as boxes, wrapping, labels, or filler, you are legally required to register in the LUCID system. This applies to:
- German businesses selling physical goods
- Foreign companies exporting to Germany
- Amazon FBA sellers and marketplace merchants
- Brand owners and private label sellers
What Are the Compliance Steps?
LUCID registration forms part of the broader Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework. The compliance structure consists of three steps:
- Create your producer account in the LUCID system directly via the ZSVR portal using your legal company details.
- Conclude a packaging license with a recognised dual system provider (for example Interseroh, Reclay or Zentek) based on estimated packaging volumes.
-
Submit packaging volume reports to both LUCID and your dual system on an annual basis.
What Happens if You Don’t Register?
Failure to comply with the VerpackG may result in:
- Fines of up to €200,000
- Sales prohibitions in Germany
- Marketplace listing removals
- Customs clearance delays and reputational damage
